The Shofar is the ancient trumpet which called the people of God to prayer, repentance, sacrifice and war.

WITNESS SUCCESS AT PRO-ABORTION CONFERENCE

Immediate: 16.30 hrs 24th October 2007

Christian Voice carried out a successful lobbying of the Marie Stopes Global 'Safe' Abortion Conference on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th October 2007 .  We leafleted those going in to the conference (sad to see so many African and Asian faces and hear Eastern European accents) and passers-by all day Tuesday.  We were there again on the Wednesday.  Christian Voice National Director Stephen Green ended up preaching as the abortionists and hangers-on were coming out, from Psalm 106:37-39, Proverbs 6:17 and Deuteronomy 27:25, 30:19 for conviction of sin, and Ephesians 1:7 and 1John 1:7 to show them how the blood of Jesus Christ could wash away the innocent blood from their hands.

So we were there when it started, and there when it ended, and they knew.  The leaflets accusing the conference organisers of cultural imperialism and branding Marie Stopes the racist eugenicist she was were taken into the meeting.  The police imposed no conditions whatsoever on our witness (not wanting to give any excuse for anyone to get arrested and have their picture in the papers, perhaps).  So all went well and as is normal at our events, entirely peacefully.

But commenting afterwards on possible attempts at amendments to the Governments’ 'Human Tissue and Embryos Bill', Stephen Green said:

‘The idea being promoted by certain parts of the pro-life movement of reducing the weeks limit on abortion is doomed.  The last time David Alton tried that, in 1990, it blew up in his face.  A limit of 24 weeks was voted in, at the top end of pro-lifers’ fears, while pro-death MPs drove a cart and horses through it by getting an exception for handicap – even minor cases like cleft pallet - up to birth.

‘We saw it on Sunday trading as well.  When the people of God stand firm on the principles of God, from the word of God, trusting in the power of God, He honours that and works miracles.  When we go for expediency and compromise, He turns His face from us.  And we never learn our lessons (Luke 16:8b).  God does not call for a bit less legalised killing of innocents, He wants none at all.  And He expects His prophets to proclaim His word, not their own ideas.  (Jer 14:14)  So expect all the effort being put into reducing the weeks to result in nothing, or maybe just a two-week reduction, with massive further liberalisation including just one doctor's signature instead of two, and the legalisation of DIY back-street abortion kits.

‘This year has been the Wilberforce bicentenary.  On Saturday it will be 40 years from the passing of the Abortion Act 1967.  40 years in the eyes of God is a time of testing, of judgment, and this United Kingdom is ripe for judgment, just as it was then, profiting from the capture, buying and selling of fellow human beings.  It took Wilberforce 40 years to see slavery outlawed.  Did he bring in compromised Bills, to ban a bit of the slave trade, or do it more comfortably?  No, he went for abolition of the trade straight away, then the practice of slavery itself.  The pro-life lobbyists need to wake up and smell the breakfast beverage.  Forget compromise, stand for abolition.  The day in which one of our pro-life MPs brings in a Bill to repeal the 1967 Abortion Act, will be the day we start counting down with Wilberforce.’

Read: Deut 27:25, 30:19; Psalm 106:37-39, Psalm 139; Prov 6:17; Jer 2:34, 14:14; Micah 6:7-8; Luke 1:8-45; Gal 1:15; Eph 1:7 and 1John 1:7

Footnote:
Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow pulled out of chairing a session at the Marie Stopes Abortion conference, after being inundated by critical emails, saying he would be ‘out of the country’.  His place was taken by Sue McGregor of Radio 4’s ‘Woman’s Hour’.  The coming together at the same conference of ‘Sooma’ and a Nicaraguan delegate bemoaning that country’s heroic new anti-abortion law should remind those with long memories of the masterpiece of self-parody run on Woman’s Hour a few years ago.  It lauded their latest feminist icon, a tractor-driving, abortion-inducing grandmother from, you’ve guessed it, Nicaragua .  Anyone for some home-made chutney?  Ah, those were the days.
