The Shofar is the ancient trumpet which called the people of God to prayer, repentance, sacrifice and war.

PRAYER FOR THE COMING ELECTION

Pray that all people will recognize that those in Government are responsible to God:

Romans 13:1. Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4. For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

Pray that we will recognize that corporate sin affects us all and is our responsibility:

Ezra 10:4 Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it.

Pray for God's guidance and over-ruling for the electorate as they come to vote and that they will choose God-fearing candidates:

Ex. 18:21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

That the people will vote for hard-working, honest candidates:

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. (Proverbs 22:29)

That those who love bribes, lavish expenses and back-room deals will be rooted out:

Proverbs 15:27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.

Proverbs 29:4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.

That men or women who love the wisdom of God and His understanding will be elected instead:

Proverbs 4:7 . Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

9. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

That the virtues of mercy and truth be the garland of those voted in:

Proverbs 3: 3. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Proverbs 20:28 Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.

That we shall elect those who understand that God rules in the affairs of men, and that He judges nations according to their deeds:

Proverbs 14:34. Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Deut. 28:1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth ...

15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee ...

Bearing in mind that turnout in elections is steadily decreasing, pray that the candidates chosen will be so upright and God-fearing as to inspire the people to go out to vote for them:

Prov. 14:28 In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
